LayerGrab
LayerGrab is an AI tool that splits a flat image into up to 16 named, transparent layers, fills in the background behind each element, and exports PNG, ZIP or layered PSD files. It works in the browser and as Photoshop, Figma, Sketch and Chrome plugins for designers, marketers and small shops.
About LayerGrab
Overview
LayerGrab is an AI image-to-layers tool. Upload a flat picture — a poster, product banner, social graphic, screenshot or AI-generated image — and it returns each main element as its own transparent layer with a readable English name, plus a filled-in background so nothing leaves a hole when an element is moved. A split usually takes 60–100 seconds and produces 7–10 layers, with up to 16 supported.
Key features
- AI layer splitting: text, products and graphics each come back as a separate transparent layer at the original position and size.
- Named layers: layers get descriptive names such as “Yellow Price Tag $129” instead of “Layer 1”.
- Background fill: the background hidden behind each element is rebuilt, so the image stays complete after elements are moved or hidden.
- Single-object extraction: name one element and get it back as a transparent PNG layer.
- Exports: download individual layers as PNG, all layers as a ZIP, or the whole stack as a layered PSD.
- Plugin workflow: Photoshop, Figma and Sketch plugins add the split as a named layer group above the original image; a Chrome extension splits images from any web page in a side panel.
How it works
- Upload a PNG, JPG or WebP by dropping, pasting or picking a file.
- The AI splits the image into layers and fills in the background.
- Review the named layers and hide any to see what is underneath.
- Copy a layer into Figma, Photoshop or Canva, or export as PNG, ZIP or PSD.
Use cases
- Pull a product, badge or illustration out of a finished image for reuse in a new design.
- Change the wording on a poster by hiding the text layer and setting new text over the clean background.
- Edit AI-generated images element by element instead of regenerating the whole picture.
- Rebuild a flat banner or ad as layers when the source file is lost.
Pricing
Every account gets one free split of its own image with PNG, ZIP and PSD downloads, and the sample splits can be explored without an account. After that, splitting uses credits: the Basic plan is $12/month (about 120 layers) and Premium is $36/month (about 450 layers), with yearly options at $99 and $299. One-time credit packs start at $20. Credits are charged per returned layer, and the filled background counts as one layer.
Who it is for
Designers, marketers and small shops who work with images they did not make and do not have the layered source for, such as stock graphics, client assets, competitor ads, AI images and screenshots.
Limitations
- Cast shadows are not kept, so moved elements can look like they float.
- Text layers are images, not editable text.
- Busy real-world photos with overlapping objects split less cleanly than designed graphics.
- Images over 5,000 px on the longest edge are not supported.
