Kilo Code
Kilo Code is an open-source AI coding agent for VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, the terminal, and the cloud. It gives developers access to 500+ AI models, supports bring-your-own API keys and local models, and offers pay-as-you-go pricing with no markup on inference.
About Kilo Code
Overview
Kilo Code is an open-source AI coding agent that runs inside VS Code and other VS Code-based editors, all JetBrains IDEs, the terminal via a CLI, and in the cloud. It writes, debugs, refactors, and reviews code, automates multi-step tasks across a repository, and gives developers a single interface to more than 500 AI models, including Claude, GPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, and local models through Ollama or LM Studio.
The project is MIT-licensed, so prompts, context windows, and agent decisions are visible and the source can be forked, modified, or self-hosted. Kilo Code is available at kilo.ai.
Key features
- One agent across surfaces: the same agent works in VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, the CLI, cloud agents, Slack, and mobile.
- 500+ models: access frontier, open-weight, and free models through one interface, or bring your own provider API keys.
- Local models: run models locally via Ollama or LM Studio to keep code on your machine.
- Specialized agents: dedicated agents for coding, planning, debugging, code review, and security workflows.
- Auto Model routing: choose Efficient, Frontier, or Free tiers and let Kilo route each task to an appropriate model strategy.
- Parallel and cloud agents: run multiple agents in parallel, including isolated worktrees and cloud sessions.
- Transparent pricing: zero markup on AI inference, with pay-as-you-go credits or optional Kilo Pass bonus credits.
- Team and enterprise controls: shared agents, centralized billing, shared BYOK, model and provider access controls, audit logs, SSO/OIDC/SCIM, and SLA commitments on higher tiers.
Use cases
- Writing, refactoring, and shipping production code with an agent that understands the codebase.
- Planning complex features and getting structured guidance before writing code.
- Reviewing pull requests and identifying bugs with automated code review.
- Running agents in CI/CD pipelines or scripts through the headless CLI.
- Moving from local coding to remote cloud agents and review workflows without switching tools.
- Teams that need governance, privacy controls, and centralized billing for AI coding.
Pricing
Kilo Code is free to install for individuals, and the extensions and CLI are open source. Pricing is split into three parts: a platform plan, AI inference, and cloud compute. Individuals can use free or local models, bring their own API keys at provider rates, or top up pay-as-you-go credits through Kilo Gateway. An optional Kilo Pass subscription starts from $19/month and adds bonus credits. Teams plans are listed at $15/user/month, and Enterprise pricing is custom. Cloud compute is billed per second for awake container time, and a 5% processing fee applies to credit top-ups and Kilo Pass purchases.
Who it is for
Kilo Code is aimed at individual developers, engineering teams, and enterprises that want an open, auditable AI coding agent with model freedom and transparent usage-based costs.
